Kitchen Remodeling vs Bathroom Remodeling

If you are looking to save a little money by remodeling yourself (or if you are interested in learning a few remodeling skills), you aren’t alone.  Many people tackle all kinds of kitchen and bathroom renovation projects every year, but some of those projects are much more difficult than others.  So if you want to attempt a DIY remodeling project and want to have a good chance of success, where should you start?

It all depends on your skill level.  Renovating an entire kitchen or an entire bathroom by yourself is a lofty undertaking for most people.  While bathrooms can be simpler due to the fact that they are generally smaller and don’t have as many cabinets and gadgets, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you should always choose the bathroom for your first
remodeling project.

The key to a successful DIY remodel is knowing what you can and can’t do.  While projects like hanging upper cabinets or replacing a bathtub are generally best left to professionals, here are a few great projects that most DIYers can handle:

Paint the walls and cabinets

Painting is fairly easy from a technical standpoint - the details can require a good deal of patience, but there isn’t too much that can go horribly wrong as long as you don’t spill an entire can of paint on the floor.  Paint is also relatively inexpensive and there are tons of options, allowing you to make your space as unique as you want.  Best of all, simply repainting a bathroom or kitchen can change its appearance enough that you feel like you remodeled everything!

Install a floating floor

While flooring options like tile can be difficult to install yourself without prior experience, flooring choices such as waterproof vinyl planks are not only easy to install, they can also be installed as a floating floor.  Floating flooring is a great DIY project because it usually does not require you to tear out the existing floor.  Just clean and level the existing floor, snap together the new flooring, cut as needed, and you have a brand new floor!

Upgrade the appliances

Much like painting, installing new appliances usually doesn’t require any specialized knowledge.  It can require heavy lifting, though, so we recommend recruiting a friend or two to help with this project!  Your kitchen appliances are usually the parts of your kitchen that you use the most, so they often wear out faster than other items.  Because you spend so much time with them, replacing them can also make the whole kitchen feel new.

After a couple of these DIY renovations, your kitchen or bathroom is sure to look and feel different.  There might still be areas that bother you, however.  If even the perfect color wall paint can’t make you hate your countertops less or stop you from wishing you had a shower instead of a
bathtub, call us for a quote on professional bathroom and kitchen remodeling today!
